Ag students to grow new skills with veggie patch

Primary Industries students work to prepare planter boxes.

Veggie planter boxes are the latest addition to the hands-on learning opportunities for Morisset High School Agriculture and Primary Industries students.

The students from Year 9, 10, and 11 will plant out the wooden planter boxes that have been constructed in the school’s greenhouse. The students have also helped our Farm Assistant, Mr Cartwright with the construction of the planter boxes.

The students have been busy filling the planter boxes with soil and organic material from the Agriculture Plot, and this week been working on filling seedling pots and choosing the herbs and vegetables they plan to grow from seed for their planter boxes. See the pictures above and below.

The students will work in groups to grow herbs, salad green, and vegetables, which they will not only get to take home to enjoy the benefits of their hard work but will also be used by our Hospitality students in their practical lessons.

The whole project is being overseen by our Agriculture and Primary Industries teachers, Mr Victor and Mr Collins.

The next steps will involve the students learning how to install a watering system in the greenhouse, building more open-air planter boxes on the Agriculture Plot, and nurturing the seeds to seedlings ready for planting.

It will be great to see this project come to life!
